Earth Hour is an international event to showcase the global effort to reduce the carbon footprint. This event is organised by the WWF known as (World Wide Fund for Nature) or (World Wildlife Fund), and it is held on the last Saturday of March each year. The first ever Earth Hour was held at Sydney, Australia in year 2007, about 2.2 million households and businesses participated on it.

This event is done by asking households and businesses around the world to turn off their unnecessary lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the call for to take action on climate change and global warming. This year’s Earth Hour event is from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time, 2009-03-28.
More than thousands cities from 84 countries are dedicated to Earth Hour 2009, a dramatically increase compared to 35 countries participating in for Earth Hour 2008.
1 billion ‘votes’ is the stated aim for Earth Hour 2009, in the context of the pivotal 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference.

IT giants such as HP, Wipro, Google, Nokia and Intel will participate in the marquee to showcase and promote their effort on Earth Hour to the world.

Last year, Google raised energy awareness by changing their home page from white to black in support of the Earth Hour campaign.
