There are some situations where you don’t actually want any updates at all in your Windows XP Operating System. If you are the one or all of your systems that fall into this group, then you’ll need to know how to turn it off. This option is available if needed, but only a very small percentage of Windows users choose to select this option.
Go to your Control Panel, and then double-click on System.
Click on the Automatic Updates tab.
Over there, you can choose a few options to turn on or turn off automatic updates by selecting:
Automatic (recommended)
Automatically download recommended updates from my computer and install them.
Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them
Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them.
Turn off Automatic Updates
Your computer will be more vulnerable unless you install updates regularly.
Install updates from the Windows Update Web site.
To turn off Automatic Updates, select Turn Off Automatic Updates and click OK.
